"He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem."

Intentional, determined, focused...these words describe how Jesus approached His mission. With unflinching purpose of heart and obedience based on love,  the Lord Jesus stayed on course, all the way to the cross.

Isaiah writes: "But the Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and know that I shall not be put to shame." (Isaiah 50:7)

Though throngs shouted "Hosanna" as Jesus humbly entered Jerusalem, He was not swayed by their wavering worship. He knew that within days of their shouts of adoration, they would soon cry "crucify Him".

People, even those closest to Him, would abandon Him in His ultimate sacrifice for us.  Suffering beyond description, Jesus steadfastly stayed on task.  He took our sins, disease and brokenness upon Himself.

Though steadfastness may not always describe our behavior, beliefs or basic reactions, it does describe His!  Trouble and trials deter most people. But Jesus walked through both determined to do the Father's will. Facing all with "flint-faced" determination, Jesus made a way for us!

You and I can rejoice that His steadfastness provided a secure relationship based upon His righteousness!  We can gratefully lift our "hosannas" even in times of trouble and trials, because He remains steadfastly intent on loving us!

"Bearing shame and scoffing rude, in my place condemned He stood; sealed my pardon with His blood. Hallelujah! What a Savior!" (Philip Bliss, hymn writer)

Steadfastly in Jesus,
