Rest, Not Rust
"And there he (Elijah) went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold the word of the Lord came to him, and said to him,  'What are you doing here, Elijah?'" I Kings 19:9

Following the impressive victory over the prophets of Baal at Mount Carmel, Elijah fled for his life.  Convinced that his ministry was over and that he was the only faithful man of God left, he was weary. He needed rest and a fresh revelation of God's plan.

Rest allows us to shift down to neutral and receive restoration and refreshing.  Rest rejuvenates, but God's word renews. We can walk in His rest and be refreshed by His Spirit.

David wrote,  "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way..." Psalm 37:7

Isaiah wrote, "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary,  they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31

Jesus says, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

Resting prevents rusting.  When we take time to hear from the Lord we will, like Elijah, find his direction.  The still small voice that brought comfort to Elijah still speaks today.   Refuse to run on empty and run into His arms of love.  There you will find rest!

Renewed,
